SUMMARY: The position operates under the auspices established in the People Development Division of the Marshall Heights Community Development Organization, (MHCDO). This position develops educational programming for individuals participating in classes designed to provide academic and corresponding life skills training to meet the needs of residents. The incumbent will develop activities that will have career development potential and enhance the self sufficiency levels of participants through their educational achievements.
DESCRIPTION:
- Coordinate the implementation of the curriculum, along with CASAS scores and learners’ goals, with the adult literacy instructors to ensure learner academic progression.
- Coordinate and administer new learner orientation. Provide follow-up with learners regarding their test results.
- Conduct Economic Security Scale with all learners.
- Coordinate the work of the data manager to ensure proper data input and analysis to guarantee programs are on track with contract obligations.
- Network with literacy providers and other educational organizations to enhance opportunities for learners.
- Provide outreach through flyers, community events, ANC meetings, phone calls, etc.
- Administer and proctor practice GED test.
- Register and refer learners to appropriate testing centers for GED test.

- Monitor program and budget progress for contract compliance and prepare reports required by contractors.
- Participate in trainings and workshops as appropriate.
- Schedule and administer weekly staff meetings for program updates.
- Seek and develop proposals for funding to enhance current programs as well as develop new programs.
- Coordinate and refer adult learners to support services offered by MHCDO and other agencies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field with 6 years experience in developing educational opportunities for program participants with multiple challenges and barriers that could impede their matriculation from High School or for obtaining their GED certification. Knowledge of educational development and work based learning plans, and assessment instruments. Working knowledge of academic standards and entrance qualifications needed by individuals to meet the pre-placement and post academic needs of participants. Must possess superior communication skills; both oral and written. Must show the ability to interact with high level executives is required. Result oriented with attention to detail. Demonstrated knowledge concerning computer software programs designed to develop the skills of program participants. An equivalence of training and experience maybe substituted for the degree requirement.
